Well I survived and can honestly say surgery #4 was my best surgery! Along with the one ginormous fibroid, my doc ended up finding and taking out 2 smaller ones as well. I mean hey, he was already in there so why not right?? The fact that the actual surgery went well is awesome but its not why I am so happy about it.. drumroll please!
I DIDNT have to have a stent put in!! WOOT!!! 😄🎉🍾
I’m not sure I’ve actually explained what a stent is and why its probably a torture device on its off days. Here’s the medical way to describe it.. A stent is put in the uterus after surgery to help reduce scar tissue and to keep the correct shape of the uterine cavity as it heals. Now here is the Danae way of describing it.. For an entire week after surgery, they expect you to survive with this painful and awkward shaped balloon thing inside your lady parts that is filled with an extremely uncomfortable amount of saline… It doesn’t sound too bad except you know how balloons have strings attached to them? Well that stupid stent has a tube instead of string and it can just randomly decide to pop out and say hello whenever it feels like it 😡 I cant accurately describe to you how much that little tube popping out at random is NOT OKAY. And its not like you can just leave it hanging out there either.. wrap your mind around that one..
On top of being in pain and on a ton of meds, you have the annoying task of putting it back in place yourself at home. So instead of focusing on healing, you are stuck in a constant battle with the unknown consequences of what used to be a simple bathroom trip. I had to have a stent after my other 3 surgeries and as you can tell from that previous rant, they are TERRIBLE and come with a whole mess of complications. That’s why I was so ecstatic when I woke up from surgery and they told me I didn’t have one! 🙂 Below is an accurate depiction of how I felt about not having a stent..
This basically cuts an entire week off my healing time and this past week since surgery has been great. I’m not really in any pain which is nice. I mostly just have an achy feeling that comes and goes especially if I try to get up and do too much. I have had 3 short out of the house trips and it was nice to know the outside world still existed! I still have to take it easy for a while but I really like having a legit reason to lay on the couch and binge watch all my shows! Watching something you have seen a million times really speeds up the healing process. It’s science! haha
I have my post op appointment with my doctor next Wednesday and that’s when I’ll find out exactly what our next steps are. This portion of IVF has been a lot of “hurry up and wait” so I’m interested to find out the next thing I’m waiting on.. story of my life.. 😖
Since the majority of this post has been centered around the status of my lady parts, I thought I would wrap things up with an appropriate soul food song! Its a classic and one that every girl has rocked out too at one point or another. Its also one of the originals that Ashley put on the Danae’s Feel Better Mix! Yay!! Side note.. this is the song that I made my teddy bear dance to while I was in the hospital for my first surgery.. he’s got better moves than I do.. Until next time.. ♥
