I thought I would bring everyone up to speed on where we are currently in the adventure known as Operation Baby Litherland!
There are a few key things that have to happen in order to conceive a child. I am well aware that the no pants dance is what makes that happen but that’s not the part I’m talking about. A woman has to grow an egg then ovulate to release it and that’s when all the mattress time should create your tiny human. Sounds simple right?? Women have been doing this successfully for thousands of years! Well, my body missed that important memo and decided it does not want to ovulate every month. ∗insert my annoyed face here∗
So what is the plan of attack you ask? To start, my doc prescribed me Femara which stimulates egg growth. This is taken on days 3-7 of my cycle and the side effect is that it gave me crazy hot flashes! I am always cold and will wear sweatshirts in the summer when my husband turns our house into an igloo. With these hot flashes, I almost froze HIM out of the house! When he told me he was going to have to put on a sweatshirt my first thought was, “oh how the tables have turned!” Ha!
Anyways.. after the meds, I had a doctor appointment on cycle day 14 to see if I had a mature egg ready to be released. When everything looked good, he then gave me a shot called Ovidrel which causes me to ovulate. (Woohoo!) This is when the timer starts because once the shot is given, ovulation will occur within the next 24-48 hours. So the next 3 days requires as much hanky panky as we can do.. doctors orders!!
The first time we did this method it didn’t work and I was crushed. Mostly because we weren’t prego but also because I started my period and everything is a catastrophe on day 1 of your period. I had a good cry and called my doc to let him know we would need to try again. Right now we have started round 2 and hopefully this one will do it! (No pun intended there lol) The whole thing is exciting and stressful at the same time. But hey.. at least we get the fun of trying again right?!?! 😉 ♥
Hooray for comments!
